Any ideas how to remedy this?
There is a little plastic clip underneath the gear selector gaiter that has broken. It is the safety interlock to the brake lamp switch and will have broken.

Firstly, under the gear knob there is a chrome plated tapered ring. Turn it a quarter turn (I forget which way) until it clicks stopped. You can then remove the knob by wobbling it side to side.

Then, remove the oval wooden and chrome trim rhat the gear lever pokes up through. This will then expose the gaiter.

Pull the gaiter back until you can see the broken white clip. Unclip or unscrew it and your car is now not stuck in Park.

WARNING: THIS IS THE SAFETY INTERLOCK AND REMOVAL WILL MEAN YOUR CAR CAN BE LEFT IN DRIVE. IT NEEDS REPLACING ASAP.

If you do a search on here for “Stuck in Park”, many replace this part with a brass one. They’re only a few pounds.

You have to remove the metal case from the selector module to remove the broken internal latch and I do not recall being able to do it without removing it from the car.
