Cl 600 Wont Start On Any Key

OK So against all advice I bought a CL600. Every thing nearly works it does 19.3 to the gallon BUT BUT BUT Sometimes I can come to it and it will not start. Press the switch on the gearlever nothing. Put the key in nothing!

The ignition lights are on and Ive pressed the pedal hard, soft Ive tried relocking and starting the procedure again nothing.
Get out lock it walk away 1hr 2 hr later no problem starts first time no codes in the ECU to say why.
I just dare not go any where just in case. Any ideas? believe me I have tried every configaration to try to start it but no way will it go. When it does go it goes like joe fk

Hi Dave,
I had similar issues with my SL, but mine was coming up with CAN-BUS related faults. As with youe car the modern merc runs on a can bus electrical system, and a fault along the line will cause the intermitant satrt non start.
Mine was down to a EGS gearbox connector not pushed in properly, it took nearly 3 months to find!!!!! and numerous times on the STAR diagnostics.
If you have not done already, link it to the STAR diagnostics at a dealer or a good Merc indie wil have one, it dont pin point the proble but gives you some sort of idea as where to look.....

You have the same set up as on my car.

Do you have Keyless go

When you put the normal key in does it turn, are there any lights

I did not want to say it, but it must be DAS related

It starts most of the time with the KG cards. Then some times when I get in the ignition lights come on but the starter dont come in!!

So then if you use the proper key the symptoms are just the same, ignition lights but
no starter, a few noises of things going on but no starter.

If I leave it 10 mins to an hour it starts like nothing wrong.

Just at a loss with it Keep the suggestions coming I will try anything to cure it!!

And Thanks for the feedback so far. I am trying to find some sort of common factor but it does it from cold when hot, when dry when wet. ARRGGHH

I think that your problem then is maybe a lazy starter, with keyless go it would say in the dash that the key was not recognized, also the key would not turn if it was the lock

If your car is a 129 then the k38 starter lock out relay will be at fault

Sorry it was a bad day yesterday and I was thinking SL and not CL

So the key does turn, but no cranking

The key turns but there is no starter. leave it a time and off it goes. There is no definate pattern. Do they have a starter relay?

Just To Let You Know It Was Oil In The Ecu In The Offside Front Fuse Box. Took It Out Sprayed It With Electric Cleaner Put It Back Prayed And Hey Presto Starts Every Time Whoooopppeeeee Like New

Its Not What You Drive Its How You Look In It!!!!!!!!!!
