CL500 COMAND upgrade

Hi!

Is it possible to upgrade a 2001 CL500 COMAND with the latest COMAND APS?

I know the facia dimensions are different and would need a bit of sawing (I'll let MB do this if they are willing) but apart from this would it be just a simple disconnect/reconnect of the head unit or are there additional components that would need to be added?

The short reply is "don't do it" . There are many reasons for this, Please take it from someone who understands these systems

I trust your judgement on this but is that based on me doing a DIY or does it even mean if MB did the upgrade?

MB wouldn't do it. If it doesn't involve swapping a component for the same again, they don't want to know.
You may have some luck with the after market boys such as Braybrooks but it will be costly. There may be issues with the bus so getting the dash display to work could be a problem too (though I don't know it well enough). Probably cheaper and less hassle to chop the car in for a newer one.
