I have recently purchased a CL500 [2002] and was assured by the agent that the car had no faults. The car looks lovely, covered 70000 miles with fmbsh but appears to have a gremlin [ or anm I doing it wrong?]

On the drive back from pick up....... The drivers door wouldnt close [ latch] none of windows worked from driver door console, neither did seat postion or mirrors. Additionally I had a warning light to say that rear indicator bulb fault was present ... the bulb fault appeared correct as the rear flasher had stopped working. Also the speedo [Indication] started at 70 mph?
I parked it in my garage, the door seemed OK but the speedo was still showing 40 mph?
Perhaps I pressed the wrong button??

Next day the speedo was reading 0 mph [ at standstill], no indicator fault, flasher OK and doors/ windows OK. I polished car for a couple of days and generally familiarised myself then went on a 210 mile round trip, lovely drive up the A697 to Coldstream. Everything fine until I got out of car on return. As before......The drivers door wouldnt close [ latch] none of windows worked from driver door console, neither did seat postion or mirrors. Additionally I had a warning light to say that rear indicator bulb fault was present ... again the bulb fault appeared correct as the rear flasher had stopped working. 10 minutes later all is fine !!!

I have called MB.... bring it in they said....the first hour 99 +VAT, the second hour 99 +VAT. I nearly went for it but the car is perfect again at the moment plus they had no idea what it could be!

Does anybody have any idea of what could be the cause and how I can resolve?

Thanks

Hi & Welcome,

As you have just bought it I would get it straight back to the supplying dealer and have them fix it. It sounds like an intermittent electrical fault which could take some chasing down.

Did you buy from a MB dealer or an independant?

I bought it off [ dare I say it........ ebay]. The chap that sold it had the car [as an agent] for a number of weeks and said that the car had behaved impeccably. I am aware it is an intermittant fault, these being the worst kind. I am and will be away from the car for 6 weeks in azerbaijan but obviuosly need to come up with a game plan to resolve. I dont really want to simply take it to MB as the labour bill could simply roll up perhaps without a result. Hence my request for some informed advice. I have read some of your forum discussion and you guys seem pretty on the ball

the 215 cl's suffer with broken wires in the door conjunent, (rubber joining boot that carries the electrics from door to car.)

This could be the faults that revolve around the door

So it appears there are some generic faults on the 215 cl's and/or could be a legitimate fault on the door control module. The CL is kitted out like a chesterfield, where can I get into the door loom/ disconnect plugs or better still where is there a good indie in Teesside [North East].

The problem of the speedo, ie stood still but segments lit up to 70 mph and then as I do say 30 mph the speedo shows 100 mph. is this corrct or did I press the wrong button. My car does not have distronic I think

Thankyou for you replies I will attempt to check all out on my return. I like the idea that it could be a simple water problem and that will be my first point of call, but wiring [ or a the lack of a common return could also be probable the speedo issue is a bit stranger.
