I keep telling myself that, I'll be rocking back and forth in my old age doing it I'm sure!!!

When you get really old any speed will not matter any more.

Well chaps, just to update.

After finding a dead, dessicated colony of mice inside the valley of the engine between cylinder banks, Phil has replaced both anti-knock sensors. Now discovered a rather corroded engine ECU connector, that has been replaced and the others cleaned up.

I now tremble in dread at the open wallet surgery I am about to undergo, but hopefully- he says!- that will be the Beast sorted out. Fingers crossed!

A fiend of the family had a similar rare fault, but with gearbox in a W210. After several garages couldn't find a fault it was eventually found to be rats that had gnawed the wiring loom. They managed to claim off their insurance for repair.

This was my great worry as soon as I heard the words "rodent damage" but apparently not. I can't begin to tell you how glad I am of this.

Well, ladies and gentlemens, I have had the conversation with Phil @ Welwyn Merx; car is finished, fine, fixed (well, aside from the navi head unit <coughMALCOLMcough>) and running like a dream. I will be picking up next Friday, that will make it 53 weeks exactly to the day- and just over £5,000 of repairs- from the original ABC warning light coming on.

Fingers crossed that I can have some trouble-free motoring through the next few years!

Phil said that it's driving like a dream now, so I can but hope! My plan is to try to give it a bit of use through the winter; at some point in the new year I need to get the rear wheelarch corrosion fixed but that won't stop me using the car.

It's been a horrid journey so far- well you know that. Yes, big relief I have to say.

Dare you remove the 'garage queen ' moniker?

In the spring we can deal with some of the rust marks.

When do you get the car back again.
