Just thought that you might be interested in my 1000 mile review of my new CLC 180K. I find it interesting that the press reviews of the car are very average. I have also owned 4 x 1 series BMW's - probably the main competitor.

I would consider myself to be a real car enthusiast having owner 22 in the past 11 years since passing my test. I guess that I am the target audience for the CLC, I am a 29 year old Doctor.

This is my third Merc, started at 21 with a beautiful 18000 mile dry run only W124 E220 SE, what a beautiful car that was, wish I still had it really it was absolutely as new and gave me no trouble whatsoever. Last year I bought a CLK320 which was just lovely but getting expensive to run with the rising fuel prices, I got a good offer on it and let it go.

Anyway.... back to the CLC.

The good....
Looks - I think that they have done a fantastic job of revamping the looks of the car, it looks classy and expensive and also very modern.

Performance - just finishing the running in process, but even having come from a new shape MINI Cooper S, I find the car powerful enough for my needs, I always find that I drive my Merc's differently to any other car, I love the way that they cruise around with the auto promoting a relaxed driving style and driving on the cruise control when conditions allow.
On the motorway the car is really quiet, comfortable and stable - makes for effortless mile munching!
Economy - Getting anything from 33 - 40 mpg so far but this continues to climb.

Ride and Handling - I think that the car rides exceptionally well, it is extremely compliant even around the heavily rutted roads around the city.
Handling - I think that the car handles really well, as I said, I have owned 4 BMW 1 series, the benchmark when it comes to handling, I never really understood what all the hype was about, maybe on a track, the CLC has plenty of grip and is fun to drive in everyday driving conditions.

Build quality - I was initially a little worried about the car being built in Brazil, if you research this a little more closely, the car is 'assembled' in Brazil from european parts before being shipped to Germany for quality checks - I have found the car to be extremely well assembled from very high quality parts - early days I know but the feeling is of a classy high quality product.

Value - This is where the car really shines, I bought mine through the PCP scheme, which makes it incredibly good value.

Overall - I am really thrilled with the car, what the magazines do not pick up on is that the car feels like a proper Mercedes and makes me feel great every time I get in it something that my BMW's never really did.

Hope that this is of interest to others.

Pleased you like it Chris. The Car Mags seem so often to get it wrong.
Just wish I could afford to change my car every 6 months!

I absolutely adore my Coupe (CLC forerunner). I have the Sport version and it handles, steers and rides very well. It's easy to park, has plenty of interior room, comfortable seats, a decent stereo and averages about 34 mpg. I was mightily p***ed off with the reviews in the main car mags. Most of them didn't seem to really road test the car and just kept banging on about how it was just an old car with a new face, blah blah. So what? A good car is a good car.

the 1 series bmw is not really a bmw now is it, whereas the clc is still a mercedes

your probably better off comparing the Audi A3 to a clc
