Hi All,

I'm new to the forums, i used to be a regular in various other car forums but for some reason forgot how good they are for help.

Onto the problem, as per the title i've found that more and more i'm getting a loss in power and when the gears change down mainly from 3rd to 2nd it literally nearly stops the car dead before gearing down. Changing up isn't as bad but sometimes when i want to get out of a junction a bit quicker than normal there is a long lag before the power kicks in (often too late and quite dangerous) then it fires me off the line.

Sitting at a steady 30 mph seems to be similar and sometimes when all i need is a fraction of power i get a massive surge and shoot forwards having to break sharp. I've taken it to my normal guy who apparently has been over it with a fine tooth comb and cannot see a single thing wrong with it. So i'm hoping someone on here could have a suggestion that i could give to him or even in-fact if they know anyone in the Nottinghamshire area that may be able to help i'll give them the business.

The last thing to note is that sometimes when in the full auto mode i set off say from a set of Traffic Lights and expect to be going through the gears as normal but it keeps on revving and don't change gear at all, instead of showing the D for drive it shows the number of the gear it's in, even though it show's in S or C for the auto gear settings and not M for the paddles.

I know it's alot so thanks in advance for reading :)

As a general question , not specifically addressing any faults , but has the car had gearbox ATF and filter change at 37500 miles and any time since ?
Has the gearbox oil level been checked , I'm guessing you have the 5 gear box with dipstick tube in the engine bay ?

If you update where you live in your details , members may be able to recommend a good MB independent near to you who has Mercedes Star diagnostic equipment , and more importantly knows Mercs

Honestly no clue, it looks like it was well looked after before my dad had it and my dad did have regular work done to it but can't be sure. I've updated my info on here for my location so if someone can give me a place to take it i will.

It's not that i don't trust my current mechanic, i've had the issues for a while and he's gone top to toe apparently on the car and can't find anything really wrong, but you know when it's your car you can kinda tell something aint right.

I've just had a look at their website and they seem pretty good, what are there prices like ?, i take it they aint cowboys ?
If your Dad had the car serviced at MB at all , they will give you a digital print out that covers if the ATF has been done . These gear boxes can become very problematic with incorrect oil levels .

No he had a company that did his fleet vehicles, they performed all work during his ownership, i'll have a look through the paperwork i have tonight and see if i can see anything, if not then i may give the above a ring and ask them to check the car over

Gearbox ATF and filter at an independent is probably £200-250

i might give my guy a ring and tell him to just do it even if he thinks it's not needed
If I give "my guy" a ring , I have to just leave a note for myself to do it
