Can any one advice me on what materials I should use to clean the Reluctor Rings on my W210. My current situation is that the ABS light has illuminated on the dash when I removed the front wheel and the ABS sensor to clean then, which has attracted plenty of debris, I noticed through the sensor hole that the reluctor rings were totally gummed up

Remove the pads, and calliper then remove the disc and you will see the the offending item. Use wet and dry paper to clean it. As I have said before this may not solve the problem but try it anyway:)

You do not remove all of that. remove the sensor, squirt a little cleaning fluid in and put a cloth around á thin stick, then spin the wheel. Do not use any sand paper, these things are Magnetic, so thats the last thing that you need near them.
loose wheel bearings can trigger the lamp,as can a faulty alternator,on the 124 the connectors need cleaning.
