I have a c250, 2016 Benz. A clicking sound is coming from the centre dash/widscreen area and is triggered when I drive on uneven roads, particularly on passenger side of road. Getting worse. Tried tightening things in engine bay, checked vents etc.... Sounds like between windscreen and centre of dashboard. Help!

This could be anything, have you tried taking the centre console out to see if somethings loose? Also check ball joints and suspension arms this can cause clicking/knocking when over bumps. Is it worse when you turn a certain direction?

Could be something inside the scuttle area that has come loose

Hi all.

Thanks for your replies regarding the noise under the dash. The car has only done 53,000km and is a 2016 sedan model.

The noise is still there and very annoying.

I have attached a short video so that you can see/hear it.

I have checked for loose things under the bonnet, connectors, etc .., but I am unable to find the cause.

It sounds like it is coming from the interface between the centre of the dashboard near the windscreen, when you drive over slightly uneven road surfaces on the passenger front side of the car. It also occurs when you slowly drive forward over a hump with full lock steering.

Note:

- the bracing strut from the front passenger wheel to the car frame which moves ever so slightly and is fixed near the source of the noise - I would not know how to check/fix this.
- it could be the windscreen/frame/insulation/dashboard rubbing against each other.
- if it was something under the the scuttle area area of the dash/centre console, then the centre console would need to be moved out - looks a bit complicated.
- if it is the ball joints and suspension arms, causing a clicking/knocking noise, then hopefully this could be easy to check/fix?

Any further help/guidance would be much appreciated.

Enjoy the video.

Thanks.

hi Thomass,

im sure youve sorted this or got rid by now, but i can tell you exactly what it is because after months of torture not knowing what it was, i've just had mine done.
its the handbrake cable hanging down because of a broken clip and rubbing on the drive shaft.
the noise speeds up and slows down with acceleration and deceleration and is louder when going round a roundabout i bet...
you cant see by looking underneath, but get it up in the air and remove the plastic cover and you'll see it.
i live in leeds , and the mechanics i use for everything Panasars charged £60 to fix it.
best £60 ive ever spent.
