hi all,

- i have just purchased 01 clk & i am absolutely chuffed to bits with it. there are just one or two slight problems with it which i am hoping to sort out:

- the parktronic system lbeeps and lights up the first two segments when switched on but fails to beep or light up any of the segments when i park closely to something (even touching). it does this in both forward & reverse. any ideas?

- there is no first aid kit & i would like to get a new one, does anyone know the part number for this model

- some of the lcd's in the clock/gear selection display on the right hand side of the dashboard are missing. can these be replace? if so, how easily and how costly?

lastly, what model is this, is it a w208? this is only my second mercedes after a 1989 230te so i am still pretty green on the subject.

thanks you all,

eb

Can't be. You're the 3rd over recent weeks and MB told me this wasn't a common fault. As MB wouldn't lie you must be imagining it!

Anyway, a new cluster, inc fitting will set you back £700. Now that I have given up and moved my car on (I put up with no clock or outside temp guage for 18 months), repairers are starting to pop up all over the place. bba-reman are one, but I believe there are others too.

JB,

I'm sure we had a thread about this some time ago. The concensus then was that it was probably the connection(s). The repair involved cleaning and tiewraps I seem to remember. Mine, in the T210 gets "pixellated" most of the time and it varies as to which ones are missing. Last night, joy upon joy I had a full compliment of temp and time (is that temp and temps [Fr]?:D ) but an incomplete gear indicator. Rather than spend £700 on a fix, which could still maintain the problem, its worth checking the connections first.

PS I must be the 4th one?

ah yes, it sounds so simple, until you strip down the cluster....
True, it is allegedly the connector, but I couldn't figure out how to get to them. I could see them and very tiny and fragile they look too, but accessible they aren't. I'm not certain though. I prodded them, twisted them, heated them and generally disturbed them as much as I could, but when I plugged it back together again, the fault hadn't changed one pixel. Left me wondering whether its elsewhere or there are a couple of other causes. Anyway, now you can pick reconned ones up for around £200 its starting to look resolvable. Well, better than the £700 I was looking at anyway.

First aid kit

Hi,
I would reccommend that you have a look at ebay for a first aid kit, as the dealer will charge the earth and you can get on ebay for around £10 including shipping. Have a look www.ebay.co.uk and there are loads on there under car accessories or type in mercedes first aid in search.
Also if you are looking at a new cluster have a look on ebay too they sometimes have whole clusteres for sale although i would want to see it first before i buy.... also have a look at merc breakers or salvage yards for used instrament clusters again will save a shed load compared to dealer

Regards

Rajinder.

thanks all, however...

thanks all, will let you know how i fare with the cluster & the sensors

although putting up with it seems the likely course of action!!

as for the first aid kit, i have had a look on ebay & the code numbers/part numbers differ, any ideas which the number is for this, i have looked around on the net for this info but with no joy yet

i have seen : A203 860 00 50
A203 860 01 50
A168 860 00 50 ???

also what is the model number of this vehicle, is it the w208 as some of the parts i have seen have this listed as the model,

thanks again for taking the time to post, gives the newbies like me a chance to get info etc.. without paying mercedes exorberorant prices, thanks!

Calling weebull!

I have the same parktronic symptoms as you describe at the top of the thread - did you ever resolve them??

Cheers.

Parktronic

If its the 2 red segments that are lighting up, then there is a fault in the system somewhere. I had the same thing on my C class. A dealer can read out the fault codes to determine what is wrong with it, but I am somewhat sceptical about these diagnostic machines when a Volvo I had showed an ABS fault to be rear sensors which I replaced at a cost of £120 plus excessive swearing only to have the same problem. :???: Another dealer told me that the diagnostic always showed the rear sensors at fault, but it was always the control unit, so, another £350 later I had a functioning ABS system.

My Parktronic showed faults on front left inner and right outer sensors, but I never did replace them. My solution? Remove the fuse to get rid of the annoying beep and park carefully. ;)
