Hello everyone,
New on here and looking for advice as i bouight my first merc last night at a local car auction.
I am now the proud owner of a 2002 clk200 kompressor avangarde coupe, which i bought on a whim at a local car auction as i fell in love with it.
I have no paperwork or handbooks as this is being forwarded to me by the auction.
My problems are twofold, the first is a yellow light depicting an engine shows in the dashboard when the engine is started, and i have not got a clue what it means, and the second is that the handbrake offers no resistance when i try to apply it and feels as though it has snapped or has become disconnected.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks..................Mike
ps.
Can anyone tell me please where to obtain owners manual or hand book describing the functions of the swiches, and controls.

Welcome to the forums,

That light is on due to a fault being picked up by the engine ecu! star machine or code reader needed to pull up the fault codes,

It sounds like something has snapped on the handbrake!

Thought i would sneak this one in as nobody appears to be looking...........i have just realised that the handbrake is foot applied and is releasesd by hand, and consequently there is no problem as i first thought because i in my infinite wisdom i have been trying to apply the handbrake with the release handle.
My only excuse is that my friend who is an ex raf technician in Germany was asked about the brake this morning and he said it may be a broken cable.
Will go away now and leave you all in peace regarding the brake.
Thanks

Still waiting for paperwork from the auction that i purchased vehicle from so that i can put the car on the road legally, and will then take it to the people in Warrington who have been reccomended to have the fault diagnosed.

Will have to wait now to see how many of my organs i will have to sell to pay for the repair, which knowing my luck will probably be a major and expensive part of my new toy.

As i have plenty of time on my hands jut now, (recovering from a lung cancer operation ) i have spent a good few hours browsing these forums, and at the risk of sounding patronising i must say i have found a lot of enlightening and interesting posts.

Still need to find owners type handbook explaining instruments/controls/switches etc, if anyone can help.....Thanks....Mike

You should be able to get one from an MB Dealer for about £20. There some on ebay as well.

Documents and service record missing.

My documents arrived today, minus the service history, and with an incomplete v5 document which does not have previous owners details.

Can anyone tell me please where i might get a copy of the service record, and /or find out who the previous owner was, and ask him/her if they can help with previous records.

Thanks..............Mike

Got the car road taxed and insured, and went out in it for first time.

Delighted with the car ...........so smooth and refined.........being automatic i no longer have pain in my arm and leg when changing gear which i had with my previous car which was manual.

Previous service records can be obtained from any MB dealer, as long as it was serviced within the MB Dealer network. If it was serviced by independents then the service record will not be available other than from previous owners. I would contact DVLA as to why they issued an incomplete V5. Glad you enjoy the car. They are very nice.

The v5 was not sent to from dvla to me, but from the auction where i bought the car last Tuesday and was the tear off section , and not the full v5.
I believe it was entered by the auctioneer himself but i do not think he was the previous owner, and just to complicate matters i believe he lives about 100 miles away and will not be back here until next Tuesday.

The local MB dealer has just convinced me that i do not exist, when i enquired about lost service records as it was not serviced there, and eventually after polite persuasion gave me a telephone number in Holland whom i have contacted.
Holland have informed me that i am not the registered keeper and therefore cannot give me the information i require unless i can prove i own the vehicle, although he did say they have records of some service history.
Oh happy days..........."red tape" and "brick walls" come to mind.
Thanks..........Mike

You should get the complete V5 in your name in about 3 to 4 weeks. Anyway that was how long mine took recently when I bought my R129. Once you have this you will be able to get the MB service history. MB are becoming very security conscious. Please don't lose a key or you will require V5, passport, utility bill and £200 to get another. Given the age of the car I would be inclined to use MBTech rather than rely on MB for servicing.

Now contacted Will at MB Tech and made provisional appointment for Monday next to have diagnostic check.
First impressions are that i have someone who is down to earth, professional, and cares about what he is doing .

I will post diagnosis next next Monday.

Thanks..............Mike

ps ......I only have one key for this car, and rather face the hassle that Mike Striven has pointed out, V5, passport, utility bill and £200 to ontain another, would it be possible to get a spare now whilst i still have the original.

I would definitely not wait until you need a spare key before you get a 2nd one. However they are only available from MB Dealers with the documents I have identified. MB will also be able to cancel the old keys that you were not provided with. They will also expect to physically see the car and they can synchronise the new key to your car. I know this because I was in the parts department of MB Manchester when someone was trying to order a new key. They have even produced a leaflet out lining the procedure I have related to you.

I would get one ordered as soon as you get the V5 from DVLA.

For service history try checking the number plate and see if it's still the original with the supplying dealers name on it.If it has you can give them a ring and if they have looked after it(or indeed if it has been looked after in the MB network)they should be able to give you a print out of any services/work carried out.

If that fails then you can also use www.motinfo.gov.uk to check it's MOT history from 2006.Now while this wont tell about services etc it will give you valuable info on mileages, anywork carried out for MOT failures and the garages that MOT'd it.You can then ring the MOT station(number is provided in the readout) and see if they have serviced the car(normally a good chance of this as most take it same placed to be tested and serviced).

Good luck

Now done the vosa check and have phoned a garage that carried out 2 of the 3 vosa recorded mot tests, no reply so looks like Monday before i can get any info.

Number plates not related to original supplier so no joy there, good idea though.

Thanks ...........Mike

All workshops/garages/MOT places etc tend to close at lunchtime on a saturday so yeah try on Monday.

Also if you phone a MB dealer(or any dealer) for service records don't start with "has my car been serviced by yourselves?" but something more like " my car was serviced by you but I've lost my service book, can you give me a printout?" this will always get the service person to ask for your reg and pump it into the computer even if they haven't because otherwise they may not play ball.

Still Here, I have found a user manual for you. Assuming that you have the W208 model as opposed to the newer and current W209 model.

http://clk.babailiica.com/mercedes_clk_w208_users_manual.pdf

Beware that this is 16MB file so could take a while to download. It is also American and for the 320 but you will get the idea. To tide you over until you get a pucker UK/Euro one.

Just got back from MB TECH in Warrington, and am now the proud owner of a car with no warning lights on.
Diagnostic machine said fault in MAF which was duly ordered , delivered, and fitted within an hour.
Would have no problem in reccomending MB TECH and will certainly be using them again.
Thanks ,,,,,,,,,,,Mike
