I just attempted to drive my CLK 200 (2001) and it has immobilised(i think) without an alarm. The engine stopped even though it had been running for a good 3-5 mins. I have tried to move it but without success. This happened to me yesterday and it was ok after a few hours, any ideas? I heve disconnected the battery for now to see if it will reset everything, anyone know how long this takes, I reckon 20 mins.....

I'll ask some questions as your description of the problem is a little vague.

1. When you say immobilised do you mean that the engine stopped of it's own accord and now wont start or that you were running the engine, turned the ignition off and now it wont start?

2. Does the engine turn over when you try and start it?

If the engine stopped whilst running, without any intervention on your part and it will restart, run and stop after leaving it for a while then I would say that the crank shaft sensor has failed or is failing.

Thanks brandwooddixon
I've given up on it and has been taken to the local Merc dealer.
The Car initially started and I left it 3-5 minutes to de-mist/warm up. I then drove off and as soon as the car gathered speed it the engine stopped and wouldn't restart, no click or anything. When I got out of the car to investigate the radiator cooling fan ran up, when I removed the keys and attempted to lock it, the central locking failed. It was as if the car had been immobilised. The RAC (roadside assistance) guy looked at it and checked with his technical centre who had no answer to this problem after checking obvious defects such as power etc.
As the car is with Mercedes now I will keep you posted on what they do to remedy this, but I suspect the immobiliser/central locking system.
