Hi, Just joined this group after having had a number of Merc's over the years. I've just bought my latest old girl and she came with a few problems. One being that I have no reversing lights and I keep getting a bulb failure warning on my dash which I assume is related. My local garage need to find a wiring diagram to determine the wiring coming out of the gearbox. Apparently there are about twelve wires but we can't find a diagram anywhere and the workshop manual I downloaded doesn't seem to offer much help that I can understand. Can anyone offer any details about the wiring on the plug please?

Many thanks.

Hello and welcome,

I’d clean up the bulbs and connectors. They corrode often, which gives the failure warning.

Welcome to the forum.

Get a voltmeter across the connectors and loom end to see it its getting voltage. Might need a scratch if showing corrosion to get a reading.

Thanks for the suggestions. My mechanic has gone through the bulbs (he’s good) so we are back to the gearbox plug question I’m afraid.

You never mentioned gbox plug before.

Did your mechanic test the bulb holders or just the bulbs.

I took out the bulbs and cleaned the bulbs and connectors. I also changed the numberplate bulbs for new ones. I still don’t have reversing lights but the bulb failure warning has disappeared. Hope this is helpful to others.

The fault was finally traced by an auto electrician to the gearbox plug. I'm afraid I don't have anymore detail but it was six hours worth of work to track it down.
