HelloAll,
I need some advice, I have a 1998 230CLK Komp Auto. I love the car, it's pure class. This evening the car started to accelerate very poorly and reving very, it seems as if the car would not leave first gear.

Restart the engine then everything went fine, then the car would accelerate with no problems. But the next day the car did the same thing great loss of power and rev very high and going nowhere? , restart the engine and everything is fine again.

Any ideas what this could be or has anybody come across this before? :-(

Thanks

Sounds as though it could be the Mass Air Sensor. A Star diagnostic would confirm that and a dealer would replace the unit.
However I have read on other threads that careful cleaning with carb cleaner can solve the problem.
The MAS is very easy to access and remove. It is located in the air supply pipe to the Throttle body, situated vertically and behind the radiator on the RH side looking from the front.
Unclip the elec connector, undo the top jubillee clip and unclip at the bottom.

Nothing to lose by having a quick look and checking for oil/dirt on the filament. When cleaning treat it gently as it is fragile.

When it registers a fault it puts the engine into "Limp Home" mode and wouldn't dislodge the skin on a rice pudding, but it DOES get you home. When mine failed it did seem erratic and sometimes the car drove almost normally.
