Hi just joined this site having had the engine managment light come on today. Have read lots of threads about fitted a blocker to the cam sensor connector to stop the oil form going upto the ECU as seems a very common problem on these engines. I have checked the sensor and seems to have been leaking, probably for some time. Have also checked the block connector going into the ECU and have found a very light trace of oil.

The car has only done 60k and currently tring to sell it as pruchased a new slk, what actions should i take form here???

Thanks for any help.

Hi, usually you get intermitant faults all the time once oil gets into the ecu, been working with main dealer this is an expensive repair, not sure if you can take the case off ecu and use some sort of electrical cleaner??? see what the other guys say

Blocker plug fitted, wash the ecu out with brake cleaner, clear the fault codes, hope for the best!!

Wash all ends of the wires in petrol,, the engine ECU will wash out with lighter fuel,, clean the MAF if oily, clean the wire to the O2 sensor and do fit the blocker.

If the MAF is oily then the oil has come down the loom

as above, brake cleaner is my favourite - same as cole. the only part that will be killed is the O2 sensor (if the oil has got there, often this is when the light comes on), all the rest usually fine after cleaning.

Until the car is sold,,and we get a new member "I have just bought this 208 and the engine light is on"

Hi again, when you say clean the ecu do you mean open it up, or just spray a load of electrical cleaner down the pins?? Also struggling to find the connector for the 02 sensor?
Thanks

Silly question but is it possible to put the engine management dash light out, without a diag machine?

Car drives perfectly.

Thanks

yes, patient and, sadly, jaded ;). it depends on the fault code as to whether it will extinguish the mil or not, happy days indeed it has gone. but being a pragmatist i do wonder if it will come back.

It was interesting during the fuel contamination crissis.
We had a member with a c240 who's lamp came on due to the fouled O2 sensor, he got many more miles per gallon when the lamp was on, by the time they could fix the O2 sensor the silicon deposits had burnt themselves off, and the fuel consumption slowly rose again

Smart + others :)
More likely to be the upper or 1st one, it might have oil in the loom, in which case, if you replace it, oil will continue to drain down to it due to gravity until there is no more oil left in the main engine harness.
