clk 230k cam shaft adjuster diy job or not

on the 230k clk whats involved in fitting a new cam shaft adjuster can it be done by an ameture or best to go to the garage any ideas of cost mine has oil along the loom into the ecu still runs goog though

Hello, there are many threads on this,

The adjuster solinoid is only held in by 3 small bolts, however its removal is sometimes hindered by a coolant casting with the thermostate in it. you will see when you have a look.
if it is hindered then partially loosening of the coolant pipe will be required to allow the solinoid to be removed.

Make sure you buy and fit the short oil proof adapator loom as well

thanks ellsy im not sure if im looking in the right place here its at the front of the engine as you look at it under a cover with a clip going into the block this has oil in it or is this something else

thanks for getting back to me its at the front of the engine as you look at it under a cover at the top of the block theres oil in the conector from there this sound about right

not sure about brass in colour its like a round bit that sticks out and the little plug clicks into it and there is also a smaller loom with a smaller plug just below it but thats dry do i need any special tools for it im guessing cams /timing of the engine

No special tools required, just torx bits. no the timeing is not touched or effected.

The little plug is a temp sensor on the unit i described above

ok will have a pop myself how do merc get away with it they wanted 1000pounds plus to do the cam shaft adjuster im not really with the idea of the oil proof adaptor loom is this a merc part why didnt they fit it in the first place
