There are two issues, but I do not know if they are related.
I have noted a whining noise whilst driving, its like driving on a freshly laid tarmac...the *intermittent* whining noise is compounded with a *stutter/shake of sort* which is not gear specific...
My mechanic placed the car on the ramp, and pressed the accelerator....the drivers sides rear propshaft apparently is loose/wobbly....before changing it, the mechanic has recommended that I am better off waiting for a month to see if the noise gets louder...if it does, then it maybe the bearings...I am obviously not satisfied with the mechanics recommendation...its a mercedes, not a rover...I do not want to be driving with an intermittent whining noise, with the occasional shake.

New brake Disc s,
New brake Pads
New front Brake disc holder
New front Shaft-Drivers side
New tyres
