Hello Members
I have a Clk 270 cdi 55 reg. The front and rear parking sensors will not work, they are never on and when i turn them on with the switch on the dash it beeps then turns on and they just have 2 x red lights on them but don't sensor anything and then after 15 seconds or so the sensors turn off. I have tried the WD40 trick by spraying them but they still don't work. I am wondering if a check with the Star diagnostic will either diagnose the fault or hopefully clear it. Can you take the sensors out by removing the trim that appears to clip into the bumper? Any ideas will be great.

The switch on my 04 E-Class switches them off, particularly useful when they are faulty.

The front and rear sensors on my car are in the rubbing strips and do not require bumper removal. The sensors have individual clips dependent on their position on the rubbing strip.

If the front and rear are not working I would suspect the control side. Can you get the codes read?

CLK setup looks similar, an appropriate adult will be along shortly to confirm.

I believe on the 209 series CLK the front sensors are only accessible with bumper removal. The rear are supposedly accessible with bumper in situ.

If your 55 plate CLK looks like the picture above, then sections that contain the (3) sensors pull out. They are always very tight. You must use plastic tools from underneath to pry and release the clips. STAR Will tell you which sensor is playing about.

That's interesting since my local Merc indy advised me that in my case the front bumper must be removed to replace a defective sensor he identified with Star diagnostics. My bumper looks pretty similar to the one pictured and l didn't have the job done as l didn't want the car messed with too much.

Some look very similar, but the sensors are integrated. On those the bumper does need to come off. I think all W209's are the same as pictured though.

The front corner strip pieces look removable but aren’t. The bumper isn’t hard to remove - the metal brackets on the sides are bit of a faff though. Masking tape on the edge of wings is a good idea when you refit.

Quite right! I was getting them mixed up with 203 bumpers which look identical but do come up. Apologies
