CLK 280 Clicking behind the dash

Hi everyone v. new to this. I have an 06 CLK 280 and recently it has started marking a grinding/clicking noise (it almost sounds like a a 2p coin being rolled along a wooden floor - very specific, I know) from behind the dash when I turn to the right.

I've had the wheels off and cant see any signs of rubbing and the bushes all look good.

What sits behind the dash (fairly central - above the Nav unit) that would cause this when turning?

The noise is getting worse and is gradually making it when driving straight but not when turning to the left.

Handbrake cable clip broken and cable is rubbing prop shaft.

Looking at older threads some people are saying it could possibly be your handbrake cable rubbing against the prop shaft because of a broken clip,
probably best to take it to a garage so they can have look underneath?

Thank you all so much. You're amazing. That makes sense. It went in to have the handbrake tightened about a week before the noise started.
It's going in on thursday for the garage to have another look for the sound (not a merc garage) is it safe to drive the kids round in until then? I've avoided it as much as possible until now as I've not known what it was.
