320 CLK 208 2000 model (petrol) 62000 miles, full history vehicle. The right hand (as sat in the vehicle) CAT failed, the lower one. I replaced this with a pattern unit from BM Catalysts. It fits well and the car has been used for some 1500 since without fault. Then the top right hand CAT failed. Again, I replaced this with a BM Catalysts unit, it fitted fine. Some 50 to 60 miles later the engine management light came on (it did go out again briefly, but now remains on permanently). Having put the car on a Snap On Ethos diagnostics tester, it reads out that the R/H 02 sensor has failed. So I replaced this with a Bosch unit from GSF, cleared the codes and away we went.... for a short while before the light came on again. The same fault showed up as before. I chose to fit another 02 sensor to eliminate the possibility that a new unit could be faulty. The fault is still there, it reads that the sensor is either shorted out or has no continuity, this reading is not consistent. Consequently, the mixture is all over the place (out of limits) and this fault is listed for both banks of cylinders. There are no starting or running issues with the vehicle it runs and performs fine, although without having checked the emissions it does appear somewhat rich by the colour of the tail pipe exit. I am an ex car techy, but now restore classic bikes. I do not profess to know a great deal about modern management systems but understand the basics. Is there anyone who can point me in the right direction please?
thanks.
