Just been told that the turbo actuator has an intermitant fault and that it has to be replaced, however the actuator is fixed to the turbo therefore a complete turbo has got to be fitted. They also say that as there is a small leak on the motor drive this also has to be replaced.

Anyone have any comments or advice.?

Only got 57,000 miles on the clock and has had full MB service !

Its not unheard of pal.

There are some turbo places that can refurb the turbo and replace the actuator within, but its yet more hassle IIRC but it will drive the cost down.

Often, the manifolds break up damaging the turbo, You may well need those too.

The turbo seals leak, leaking oil onto the swirl flap motor causing reduced powers.

IMHO, just reading this, change the seals and the swirl motor and get the manifold cleaned/replaced and if the car still loses power, then look at the turbo.
