Clk 430 auto

This is a repost in the hope that somebody has experience this.my clk changes down to fourth from fifth gear while cruising at 70+ in s mode .no problems in w mode .gear changes still very smooth.stays in fifth ok while under 70.no codes displayed on star reader.

If you put it back in c mode does it still change down ? S mode does hold the revs higher when accelerating

that what I was getting at wighty , most autos ive had , if you switch to sport mode they pick up a cog until the speed is high enough to reselect top gear

It shouldn't happen.

Sitting at 70 in W or S it should be in 5th and stay there.

In the op's 1999 car S is standard and W is winter.

Haven't been faster than 80 but flick to w and it drops into fifth.flick back to s stays for a while then drops to fourth again

Probably best to see a knowledgeable MB Indy as your next step .
I think you are right.i will have codes read again in case something shows up then off to the menders.cant complain been trouble free for last 8 years.thanks for responding

I'm near Norwich in Norfolk
Stowmarket , Suffolk has Alex Crow who is extremely knowledgeable Indy . I travel an hour plus to see him . Maybe someone can recommend anyone closer ?

722.6's will do this when it thinks the oil temperature is too high. Might be a faulty temp sensor in the electroplate.
