Hi- am looking at buying a CLK convertible and with about £16k to spend there seems to be a mix of old and post-facelift models on the market. What are the main differences introduced in the facelift (2003?) and are there real benefirs with going for the later model? Engine size would would probably be looking at the lower end as I do not want to lose my license within the first month of having the car!

Any help and advice greatly received!!

I've got the hardtop but as far as CLK's goes it's worth holding out for a 2004 model.

This means that you will have a galvanised body and also will not run the risk of the valeo radiator problem.

There was a dash upgrade mid-2004 which I assume applied to convertibles as well as CLk's. There was a more general facelift mid-2005.

BTW the hardtop's front and rear side windows completely retract (no pillar) so it's halfway to being a convertible.

Check out Autocar and Wisebuyers guides for valuations. For 16k you should get a lot.

I have a 52 plate CLK 230K conv with most extras. Am thinking about selling it at a realistic price. PM me if you are interested. Gary
