Hi all,
Just thought that I would let you all know of a nightmare breakdown and the best dealer I have ever been to!!
My car is a 99 CLK 230K, I was driving down an A road pretty fast and all was well, at the end of the road there is a set of traffic lights. I pulled up to the lights and the engine died, immediately I knew all was not well, I tried to restart it and it just about ran but really badly and as soon as I put it into drive it cut out. I had a look around the engine bay and I didn’t notice anything.
Anyway, I sat in rush hour traffic for an hour waiting to be towed away, tow guy reckoned it was the coil pack. I got the car towed to MB specialists Burton Motor Workshop (01283 500750). They said that they would have a look at it tomorrow, and one of the guys asked what happened and said he would have a quick check, not bad considering the car didn’t arrive at the garage until 5.15pm. On checking around the engine bay he spotted the air intake had come off at the front of the car (I think just over the MAF sensor?), anyway he fixed it and then the car wouldn’t start (Flat battery after the tow guy left the hazards on). Then another guy came out to help jump it, due to some problems it took about 20 minutes to get it going.
When started the car ran perfect, on asking the guy he thought that it was probably loose already and stopping the car at the lights tilted the engine enough to release it and cut out the engine. I asked how much I owed them and he said nothing, I offered the guy some money for a drink and he insisted it wasn’t necessary. Now that to me is service, he could have left it and charged me an hours labour or even worse some parts, he did it at the end of the day when they were packing up for nothing, now that to me is great service. So if you want a superb independent in the midlands then give the guys a call on 01283 500750.
Sorry for the long note, moral is check your hoses and go to Burton Motor Workshops, who are top guys who wont rip you off.
Cheers Ross
