Hi John, thanks for your quick response. I'm planning on using it as second car for summer use. With only 100 made I presume it should appreciate in value?

I would think so Kev, given the profile of your use it might make sense to do a good resto....however it might take a while for it to begin to realise an increase in value
Sounds an interesting prospect ...pics when you can would be nice of course

Hi Kev and welcome,

I guess long term they will be collectable. The W208 CLK is very cheap at the moment, its not really made classic status yet, although if you look at the W124 E class convertibles they have made it and are worth quite a lot in good condition.

They are relatively simple to maintain, the only real problem is rust, so if you have a good one, I'd clean it up and rust proof it asap.

What mileage is yours? I've got a 2001 230 Kompressor Cab with 67k miles on it.

Hi, its got 138k on it but its in good condition except the dreaded rust on the arches and boot around key lock. I think I'll do it up to a decent standard drive it in the summer and if it goes up in value it's a bonus. If not I've got a well built luxury convertible for not much money. They were made to be driven so drive it I shall. Happy days. Thanks for your valued comments

Yep I've got a bit of rust around the boot lock, and a bit on the drivers front wing at the bottom edge. Unfortunately they do go unless they have been really well looked after and cleaned properly.
You've probably got some oil leaking out of the cam magnet on the front of the engine also? And probably from the auto trans connector?

Common problems on these.

Yep, leak from those exact 2 locations. Relatively easy fix so not too worried about it. Managed to get 2 wings in mint condition from a silver elegance model. Dronsfield Mercedes breakers in Oldham £180 for pair. =) now trying to get quotes for paint job. Probably best to do full respray I think. £1000??

Ok John,
Thanks anyway. I've also got a squeeky rear end which is not good ! Sounds like an old metal framed bed when I'm driving it. Ordered some new bushes so hopefully that will cure the problem.

Was worried when you started about a squeaky rear end as I’m watching Holby at the moment...but all explained - phew

I cant ever really see any version ( bar the AMG ) of this merc being collectable , it belongs to a part of Mercedes that most will want to forget with such shocking quality issues surrounding the rusty inferior metals used to make the bodywork but you never know I guess , stranger things have happened like Trump being President . . . . .

Apart form the rust issues, they are generally reliable old things.

They are also an important design moment for Mercedes, the first C class coupe & Cabriolet, part of the Michael Fink design era that had the twin oval headlamps.

The W208 is just stuck in that era where its 20 years old, so not old enough to be a classic yet.

Ha ha. Nice one.
Hi John, sorry for the delay here's a few photos. Managed to get 2 wings from Dronsfields in good condition and I got a new MB original boot lid off ebay. Its going in on Monday for corroded fuel pipe repairing leak on Auto transmission repairing and engine oil and all filters doing. Then it's off to the body shops to get quotes to enhance her beauty!!

That’s a nice project! Don’t know about paint shops in your area (and your car is a rag top and mine isn’t) but I was quoted £5000 to have my CLK resprayed locally. If you can get it done for £1000 and it looks good, I need the number of that body shop!
