Hi there, hope someone can help.
I was driving my CLK the other day, did about 15 miles then stopped to pick up some friends. Car wouldn't start when I tried after only about 10 minutes with engine off.
I looked in the boot and noticed that a clear plastic lead extending from the side of the battery was completely off. I had just had my spare tyre replaced and assume they knocked the lead off when putting it back. I stuck it back in the hole and the car started, but I got all sorts of warnings about low battery charge.
This morning the car failed to start again and needed jumped, which worked first time. I took it for a run, so we'll see it it has charged up.
My question is: what is this tube / lead for? I can't find into about it anywhere and can only assume its for topping up battery fluid from some remote reservoir?
I'm wondering if it being disconnected has done any damage and I'm also wondering if I'm right in my guess about what it is - never seen anything like it on a battery before.
Appeciate any input.
