2009 CLK 350

I bought the car fairly recently, and all was working fine. Both mirrors folded in and out with the central locking. The other night I pressed the fold-in button, and the mirrors folded in. Since then, both mirrors won't fold out electrically at all. If I force the mirrors out, they do fold back in via the button or the central locking, but won't fold out again until I force them out. I have had to change the setting to stop them folding in. I can't believe it's the motors as bot stopped working at the same time.

I have tried disconnecting the battery for half an hour.

Does anyone have any ideas how I ca fix it?

What state is your battery in ? Do you have two batteries or just one ?
I don't know, but I've got no reason to think it's dying, the car starts and runs fine

On a lot of Mercs there are two batteries, one for starting the car and the other to power the ancillaries (such as mirrors). Try Googling to make sure your car only has one. According to a page I've seen, in a 2009 Mercedes CLK 350 the auxiliary battery is in the engine compartment, under the AC Dust filter housing in the left top corner if you're looking at your engine with the hood open.

Thanks. I assumed that battery was the only one, I'll check in the morning.

If it's C209 one battery. The car will always start, no instruments, seat butler plays up is a good indicator of low battery.

Yep , one battery on the car .
Is there a seperate fuse for the mirror folding ?
Seems unlikely that the mirror wires would break on both sides at the same time ? Unless a break in one side stops the other folding ?
Is the folding mirror switch by any chance stuck in and stopping the other switch operating ?

Yes, only one battery, that appears to be OK. The fuses for the folding mirrors are fine. The mirror switch appears to be OK, not stuck or anything, but I'm hoping the switch panel is faulty

Does the mirror glass move ? Just wondering if that part is getting power .

Yes the glass moves. I did manage to trace the problem to the switch panel (I think). Connecting pins 2 and 5 of the connector makes the mirrors fold out, so the wiring and motors in the mirrors are fine. I've ordered another switch panel and fingers crossed that solves it

FIXED: In case this helps anyone else, I've fixed this. Someone in another thread had suggested connecting pins 2 and 5 which proved the mirrors do fold out OK, which isolated this panel. Ordered a spare on eBay. It's easy to get to the back of it through the fuse panel on the end of the dash so you can push in the metal clips. The hard bit is that there's a torx screw (T20) underneath which is covered by the parking brake release. Almost as difficult getting the screw back in when installing the new part. I managed it in the end by binning the torx screw and selotaping a philips head screw to a screwdriver to get the bugger back in. Sorted now. Thanks for the reponses.

Great stuff OP well done.
Ebay is good for bits like this on cars being broken - provided you know dealer price. I had a failed door module on my passenger side on my W251. Got one off ebay - made an offer for 10 pounds. Dealer was over 140. + vat. Took literally 1 min to replace.
