I am a new owner of a 208 230 CLK. I have an issue with the key fobs. I have one working fob and one not. However both will start the car but one does not show the red led and hence will not operate the central locking and boot. I have changed the batteries abut am confused why the key still starts the car. Life was simple before all these elctronics.

Before joining the forum, I did see that fobs being sold on eBay cannot be reprogrammed despite what the sellers are saying, so I would like to sort out the two fobs I am (presumably) lucky to have been supplied with.

Any help would be very appreciated.

It is in two parts, the key is pre programed for you car and separate from the infra red remote for locking etc, They can be purchased as separate items.
Are you sure that the batteries are OK and the right way round (both)

Hi, Check the batteries and then re-sync the one which does not work. Other members have had success by leaving the key in the ignition over night. Pls do a search on the forum.

HI

As you say keys of Ebay are useless bin the key that doesn't work and order a new replacment key about £40.00 , don't confuse the locking function via IR or RF with the start function it is 2 completley different systems
