CLK Lights/Indicators Flash When Car Locked .. ?

I confess , am perplexed .

I bought a lovely condition ( mint , really ) '04 CLK about three weeks ago , and last week it developed a habit of switching on the indicators and , I think , the headlights in swift flashing mode when I lock up .

There's no predicting it though as , often enough , I can lock it , wait and stare at it for five minutes to let it lull me into thinking that it's O.K. to leave it , then when I look out a couple of hours later , say , the sky is alight with my flashing car . Other times it'll kick off on the instant when the locks engage or , on one occasion last week , it appeared to last the night through without an eruption .

The wordy handbook doesn't appear to have a handle on it in the troubleshooter guide and it doesn't appear to be able to be left unlocked as the locks engage whether or not I wish it . The stop-gap solution upto now is to leave one of the doors ever so slightly ajar and maintain the car empty of any valuables .

So far as I'm aware it's not a requirement to perform an incantation when engaging the locks system but might there be some hocus-pocus permutation of key-fob and centre console switchgear that I have unknowingly fouled up somehow ?

The main problem associated with the flashing indicators seems to be a faulty alarm siren. worth a check..

Thanks very much for the words of welcome and the ready response .

No , it's not a soft-top CLK I have , just the bog standard model ( although it's pretty special to me of course ! ).

Perhaps a faulty alarm siren you say ? Well , I'll believe it , but how do I check ? The siren works as I've had it screaming a couple of times in my quest for the magical locking permutation .

The chap who has maintained my previous C estate these past years , is making enquiries today on my behalf , may well come to the same conclusion . Certainly , he'd likely know what to do to check it out .

I'll keep you posted .

You need it put onto star for a real answer to your fault, i have seen door pins at fault, rear Sam's, the inside motion sensors, and of course, the famous siren, all causing the faults you are having! it will be cheaper then changing bits to try it!

Oh , right ! That's expanded the field of candidates somewhat .

I would suppose " star " to be a merc' specific piece of diagnostic kit to trouble shoot ? If I lived down your way I'd likely ask you to have a look-see , but I'm up here in the grim north . Thanks for your suggestion though , it makes sense . :)

I'm reminded of a parable of my own when , once , passing through Lausanne , my exhaust blew and I found the Merc' dealer there who , despite my pointing to underneath the car and telling them about the exhaust proceeded to prat about for an entire afternoon with their computerised kit until finally placing the car over a pit and telling me the exhaust pipe was broken ! By which time it was knocking off time and I had to find a hotel for the duration of the night there . The next morning they effected a botched repair ( they didn't have the required pipe and none of them could weld , a couple of spot-welds was the best they could muster :-( ) , charged me near five hundred quid and let me go . Their repair was so limp-wristed that it lasted about a couple of hundred miles only and I growled my way back home to Blighty where my chap here spent but a few minutes with his welding torch and effected a repair which has lasted to this day , some six years later .

I live in Saddleworth , a parish in the Pennine hills 'twixt Oldham and Huddersfield . Was once not so grim but is nowadays , it seems , little more than a dormitory suburb of Manchester .

Would disconnection of the alarm horn ( would that I knew how ... ) take care of the flashing lights/indicators nonsense also ? It would suit me if it did as I'm not a great believer in their effect other than as a social nuisance and am of the opinion that , ' .. them ruddy car alarms , there ought'a be a lor agin ' 'em ! ' . A prejudice nurtured by the fact that I do , actually , live adjacent to the playing fields and village centre car park . Somedays it can be torture .

Well if you disconnected the alarm horn ,an if all of the other troubles went away you would know that it was the only problem
