CLK Retrofit Route Planner - Route Planner Availability

I am wanting to fit a journey planning device to my 2001 CLK. However I do not want to pay MB prices. Can anyone advise of a suitable alternative - preferably something that fits in the existing dashboard slot

Unfortunately the only unit that will fit as original is the original.

Blaupunkt have, however, just released there latest units which are head units for the audio system ans double up  as nav systems

The biggest problem to doing this is to put the GPS antennae on the roof - getting the cable back to the centre-console in a sensible manner is a pain.

You can buy a COMAND unit, or a Audio-30-APS on Ebay Germany for sensibilish prices, and can modify the existing wiring (with some extra connectors and bits) to work with COMAND. The wiring for the Audio-30-APS is trivial. In fact, MB sell a device that will connect to the car and produce the speed and "he's reversing" connections for non MB sat-nav systems (might be needed for the Audio-30 APS) - by using an Audio-30-APS, I think you get the steering wheel controls working, and it will connect to your boot-mounted CD changer if you have one. If you do have one, you'll have to use a MB unit in anycase, one with D2B (fibre optic) connection.

Ok,please ensure you get one for a CLK, ie part number starting A208 ... .. .. - the locking mechanism is diferent for each model.

You should get one with the letters on the keypad (i.e a MY2001 or 2002 one). If you're going to install the "integrated nokia phone option" ever, you need a MY2002 one, as that has the ability to edit SMS messages from the comand. I think MY2002 is part 208 820 44 xx - if you search on mbworld for COMAND I think  I posted all the different model year versions.

My last message applies to COMAND units. If you get a Audio-30-APS , make sure its not a "new C class" version as that has a curvy front panel, not a rectangular din size front.

I wish I could remember everything at once :-(

If you get a Audio-30-APS, the map disk is the same disk across all of Europe - current version is 5.0 - and its expensive to buy new maps from UK dealers (ok price from ebay). The COMAND has one disk per country, so you'll have to get a UK map disk at some point - best bought direct from www.teleatlas.com, new one is due anytime now.
