Hi folks, some advice needed:

I currently have a 03 CLK 320 Elegance with an Audio 10 Radio Cassette fitted as standard and am looking at my options for upgrade to multi or even single CD player. If I was to buy an Audio 10 CD head unit on Ebay is it a simple case of direct swap with all the relevant wiring already in place or do I need to buy additional items apart from the boot mounted changer unit?

Is it a competent DIYer's job? Any links to a description of process gratefully received.

Cheers

Audio 10 R/Cass - Audio 20 Upgrade Compatibility

Hi all

Further to my last I have bought an Audio 20 from eBay and removed the Audio 10 from the car to find that the connections are completely different! Looks like I may have assumed a little too much that MB Audio units from roughly the same era are connectively compatible with each other.

The Audio 10 is a rad/cass only Becker BE 6019/MB Part no. A203 820 16 86 and only has a DIN connector and aerial connection at the back.

The Audio 20 is from a 2004 CLK apparently and is model MF 2540/MB Part No. 209 820 26 89 and looks like this at the back:

and this:

Do I need further adaptors or have I bought as completely incompatible head unit for my 2003 W209 CLK 320?

Thanks in advance....just out to put the trim back in!

you can get some clk's witha cd changer in the glove box

you may be able to get a connector that will allow you to use the new radio it would just mate the old with new if not a good auto electrican should be able to wire it up

As is common with much of my DIY, I have done more damage than good!

Not only do I have the wrong replacement unit, it would appear, but upon replacing the heater/AC control panel, I have managed to break the locking bar that secures the multi-pin electrical connector for the heater controls. This is a std auto-electrical multi connector commonly found on German cars which uses an eccentrically mounted rotating bar to ride up over the plug to seat it properly. I have tried to locate without the bar but the plug recess is too loose and offers no retention of the male part of the plug and all contacts are intermittent.

Can anyone point me towards a supplier of these connectors or are they MB main dealer only? I've searched these and other forums all evening with no success.

Thanks in advance.

Well Blu-Tack solved the loose male plug. Can anyone help with the original question though? Would my eBay Audio 20 out of a 2004 Cab CLK be compatible with my 2003 W209 as an upgarde of the Rad/Cass Audio 10, or should I just go the CD changer in the boot option? If the latter, any clues as to what I should be looking for on eBay to do the retrofit. Ta very much in advance.

Audio 10 units were/are available as either CD/Tuner or in your case Cassette/Tuner.
My C43 had a Audio 10 Cassette/Tuner fitted with fibre optic CD/Changer in the boot, bought a Audio 10 CD/Tuner and this was a direct swap, took longer to input the code on the stereo than it did to change the unit.
