Hi guys, after a number of unsuccessful attempts to fit led bulbs into my current number plate lighting units, I went for the actual led integrated units themselves, but don't really know how to get the old units out to replace with the new.

The car is a 2006 CLK Couple w209

These are the units that I've bought: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/400755848139?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT

Any advice/guides would be greatly appreciated!

You have to remove the boot panel and then they come out easily.

I do have this info if you would like it.

Thanks Malcolm, information would be great as I'm not sure on how it's removed, better start prepared.

Have you got my email address or shall I send it through?

Pretty sure that most will be the same/similar on there, there are few other listings for them.

To be honest, I didn't realise that it would be such an involving task. Don't know if I can be bothered to do it now or soon because it involves taking the number plate off, which I've recently stuck onto the number plate surround that is screwed into the boot cover lol.

Will see how I feel by the weekend.

Malcolm, thanks for sending the information over, do you have the same for the international trim? Looks like that needs to be out too.

I also have this problem. It is awkward to get my fingers or screwdriver behind the number plate light fitting to remove. I feel that I either continue to suffer being so close. I fell like using a pair of pliers to destroy remove the old number plate light fixture so I can replace and slide in the new LED unit. But Somehow I think if I can remove the plastic back plate first all would be easy. ???

Perhaps that final step is my missing link. !

I was able to pry the plastic fascia off. But was a bit ugly as a clip on one side snapped off. It is ok but I guess there is a procedure. It seems that taking off the license plate makes room to “jiggle” the plate of pulling first from “bottom”. (i.e. the view with the boot open. The main clips are two prongs type on each side and three small across the top.

This is helpful for the next guy.

This assumes that the super easy pre-work of removing the carpeted panel to give you access to the awkward finger work. To release the lamp assembly, I did not use a screwdriver, but something I used to use to remove a tire from a racing bike. Kind of like of in the shape of a 7inch long Allen key made of aluminium.

up till then, I used finger ouch... and screwdriver scratch and crunch, but the lever tool made it easy to push the clip and then feed the lamp assembly out towards me. (After unplugging the cable gently and carefully)

The plastic boot lid cover comes off, if you take the interior trim off, you can see the number plate lighting units and if I recall correctly the boot lid fixtures.

You won't remove the old units without removing the plastic boot lid cover.

I actually have a set that I've purchased but never fitted due to worrying of damaging the cover, now sitting on eBay

Here are images to alleviate fears. Squeezing the left side post clip (up/down) is the way I would go to remove Mercedes Part 209 750 00 37 These pictures and my descriptions should alleviate fear.

Eventually, even replacing bulbs would get the right lamp working so I went for it. Advising others how to do it now is easy. And key to be patient. And the pictures I posted definitely help visualise. Thanks for the reply. FYI: the LEDs are in and working and look awesome. So worth it. And the analog lamp bulbs will eventually corrode. The item I got was this from seller ledmisaya. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2X-LED-N...-/254061956130?_trksid=p2349624.m46890.l49286
