Clk diesel 220 2005
hi ya ,new to all this. I’m wanting to buy a clk diesel 2.2 or 2.7 not fussed.
Are there any common niggles I should look for, the couple I’m looking at have good history both 05 and 2.2’s.
Also do they have a DMF?
Many thanks in advance
Dave

Welcome, CLK a lovely car but as a sporty 2 door coupe I have only bought Petrol (320), hopefully someone will be along to answer, my guess would be as a 12-13 year old diesel it is unlikely to have DPF. Have you considered petrol?

You need to be doing a lot of mileage for the 10 mpg to make a big difference once you add the cost of diesel and servicing back into the equation. The CLK was a super smooth petrol, my brother in law had the diesel it just seemed to remove the refinement and sportiness from the car in my opinion.

Ok just had a look at petrols and obviously there a bit cheaper. I’m not after loads of speed, just getting lazy and would like a nice auto... plenty of 1.8s . Was it a common engine or does it struggle being a big motor

The 1800 is supercharged so not slow but needs to be worked harder as it is a heavy car. If you can afford I would go for the next engine up in the 320 as that is effortless to drive and silky smooth.

No substitute for CCs and cylinders. I have a W209 3ltr. Fast when required, fuel on long run around 32/35 MPG. Reliability? In 75k it’s had new ignition switch, thermostat, gearbox electroplate and now Artico is cracking up. Apart from reliability problems a cracking car.

I had my 03 clk for 2 years from 36,000 miles to 49,000 miles not a single breakdown, failure or issue. It had a good balance of looks comfort and power it was a car I would turn around and take an admiring glance before leaving. The only reason I moved on was it was stolen. The Met police caught the guy and said your car is really quick they had trouble catching him and they enjoy a good chase, told me I would need new brakes, tyres and wheels it broke my heart as the car was immaculate. I got a quote from Mercedes to replace everything to bring it back to new condition and insurers made it a CTL.

I think I can honestly say after owning 2x Range Rovers, a Lexusgs450h and a Jaguar XF portfolio, the CLK was the nicest overall experience until now, but don't get me started on the SL now that I am able to lower the roof and enjoy a V8!

I had a 2001 CLK200K did about 119K miles almost no problems at all. From memory about 32mpg.
Then had a 2006 CLK270CDI did about 115K miles again very reliable. A few minor problems front suspension bushes, & a rear shock absorber. Glow plugs replaced about 75K miles, about 48 mpg.
Both great cars.

I should have mentioned I used both cars for extensive touring holidays of Europe, over 10 summers. Not the quickest but would cruise all day at 90 mph, & you felt great at the end of the day.
When I came to replace the 270 I looked at a load of late CLK's, but they were asking silly prices. Also looked at the C & E Coupe's but the boots are too small, ended up with a 7 month old E350CDI. My first non coupe in 15 years very pleased very quick. Managed 140 mph so far in Germany, then the wife woke up!
For comfort & driving position I think the CLK just has the edge.

CLK 270 cdi
Hello, I have a 270CDI CLK and it's the comfortable car I have ever owned. I regularly get 50mpg and I find it powerful enough even when towing a box trailer (don't get 50mpg with that on the back!).
Lots about it on this site but watch out for the valeo radiators if auto box. Also lots of the European ones I looked at (live in France) were clocked. Ended up though buying a one owner, FSH privately.

Cheers

Philip

I have just put my CLK320 cdi Sport up for sale. I have owned it for over five years, which is a bit of a record for me!

I bought it with 116,000 on the clock and it has now done 164,000. It's comfortable, fast (remapped to about 270bhp) and averages about 36mpg, with a bit more on a run. It's well specced with heated seats, memory package (seats, steering column and mirrors). It looks like it's done half the mileage.

Just got a it bored with it after having it so long and I have just replaced it with an E350 coupe.

Hi everyone, not needed any forum help as my 98 clk has not given me a problem in the 2 years i have owned it!,but after being parked up for a while,i stupidly have let the battery go flat and cannot get in the boot to recharge it,i have tried the mechanic key but it will not budge, but luckily i did not lock the doors so i can get into the car.i was just wondering is there a knack with the key or a manual release hidden somewhere i do not know about? any help will be great.

If you can get in the car you can release the bonnet. Under the bonnet on the left inner wing is a black box with a red + sign. Open it and connect the positive lead of your charger to the brass stud.
Near the box is a similar stud. Attach the negative lead and turn on the charger. Give it half an hour and the boot will release off the remote.

Hi,as this is an introduction page i thought i should tell other members a bit about my car,It was offered in a internet auction at a very low starting price and i thought i would have a gamble, the pictures did not really do the car justice as i expected to view a right heap when i won the auction and went down by train down to chippenham to collect it,the car i got greeted by was very much undersold and looked too good to be true, only 3 owners from new the first being a soldier who was working in germany who ticked nearly every box on the option list! all that let the car down were cosmetics which seem to effect a lot of mercy from this era,i drove it back with no problems and when i parked it on the drive got some very envious glances,it only had 96k back then and its still not hit the magic 100k,it has been so reliable and has only required a pair of wheel bearings and a bulb to pass the last mot,i never have had a car that is so reliable and cost so little,my last car was an isuzu piazza turbo [the third one i have owned]that i spent far too much money on and did not get a lot back so the clk has been fantastic and i would recommend this car to anybody, its not that heavy on fuel and is effortless on long journeys and still looks good today.
