My instrument cluster died and I thought it was the battery so changed it. That alone didn’t bring the cluster back to life. Checked all fuses and all were fine and then one day the cluster came back to life!

only problem I can find with it is that the clock is at 12:00. When I set the time with the steering wheel buttons it goes straight back to 12:00 as soon as I press the R button. The hands on the clock spin back and forth a bit and then settle back at 12:00.

The clock then doesn’t change time at all.

Any ideas?

Do you have a mist on it? Can you take it off and let it dry on a radiator/fan heater at home for a few hours.
If not just disconnect and apply connector cleaner on both sockets(on cluster and car harness) , let them dry and connect them back.

No mist on it but I’m willing to give it a go. Do you mean take the whole cluster out and dry it out? Im

instrument cluster failure is normal on cars inside the last 15 years...

there are plenty of repair places for those not brave enough to attack with a soldering iron and some replacement capacitors

a year ago I was just finding a place in Oz for a guy who's w211 cluster was acting up. my focus one was repaired by these guys

e class Common faults
  • Analogue Clock keeps re-setting itself.
  • Speedo gauge sticks or doesn't work all together.
  • Partial or complete illumination failure.
  • OBC LCD pixelated or keeps going white.
  • Complete power failure.
