I have been offered a new MB CLS 350 AMG Line with a lot of "dealer support" (ssshhh, discount). It's a 1991cc petrol engine, not 4-matic and not a current model (I think they are all 6-cylinder engines now, both petrol and diesel) but I'm trying to find out when this model was superseded so I can get an idea of how long this car has been sitting around. I know I can get the build history printed out but I haven't got that far yet - I just want to see how interested I am!
Ideas appreciated.

Errrm... A CLS350 with a 2 litre lump??? I is confused as I thought the smallest engines they ever put in a CLS was the 250 spec (2.1)?

Have I missed something...?

No, there has always been this small-engined version, at least until the current model. But according to the data, it chucks out 299bhp.

Sorry none of this rings true. Current model is 6 cylinder only. Previous model had 2.1 litre diesel 4 cylinder but nowhere near that output. 350 models have only ever been 6 cylinder (V6).

Salesmen keen to shift cars have been known to be economical with the truth. Suggest you get VIN and download data card.

Hmmm - also from Wikipedia: CLS Model C257 introduced 2018 CLS 350 M264 DE20 LA 2.0L 14 turbo 220kW (295hp, 299PS @5,800-6,100rpm)

Agreed current model is 6-cylinder only as above. What I am being offered seems to be in between the C218 and the current. What I am trying to find out is when that facelift/re-launch took place.

I've not heard of the C257 designation for a CLS before either. I is now hugely confused!

Ask the dealer your questions and get him to print off the build sheet.

The C257 replaced the C218 sometime in 2018; it’s when they dropped the shooting brake. The CLS350 seems to have been current at least until mid-2020. I will get the build sheet but just trying to be forewarned.

Intersting thread. A 350 CLS with 2l engine!? I assume it must be the same engine in the E class for example. A good engine. Following to find out what the engine is!

From what I can see... 48V mild hybrid, 162g/m, 0-60 in 6.0... Looks to have been introduced sometime in 2017 with the C257 platform (possibly a bit later in UK)? Same lump supposedly finds its way in to C200 (C-Class!) during 2018.

I stand corrected - sorry! Also looks like they do a CLS260 with a 1.5 engine for the Chinese market

Keep us posted about what the dealer says @Monday - I'm intrigued.

Can only think that engine didn't prove popular in the CLS in the UK (bizarrely, given our RFL system), so perhaps was discontinued quickly?

Hi,
Ask them to send you the Oasis report, this should give all the info, and the report should be readily at hand in PDF for the salesman to send to you, I got it in a matter of minutes of speaking to the salesman on the phone.
