You cannot believe what all people say on forums or in the press.

We had a guy here who swore blind that his 123 230 was much faster and much more economical by using 98 ron, it did not matter that all others with the same car could detect no difference gained at all, and some thought the MPG was a tad worse. Just to satisfy myself on going to a meet over 300 miles away I filled with 98 one way and 95 the other, though it is not an ideal way to test the 98 gave me a worse figure.

This is a scientific fact that you cannot increase the power or output from just changing the fuel, do not forget that some countries only have 91 ron fuel, and these cars will still run on that as long as you avoid hard acceleration.

If this was the case then the market would be full of additives to achieve more power from regular fuel

But on a second thought, i calculated how much (£) i will save in swapping to '95' ron over '98' in 10 years and it was a mere £1k in savings :(. Doesn't really looking promising! Does it???

True :D:D in fact had he started saving 50 years ago he could have bought the AMG version instead

Come to think of it, if i started half a century ago, that means, i would have been 25 years then and i would have fathered him who gave me life and probably be using an AMG walking stick by now. Probably, my grand-children will be the ones on here discussing the 'AMG 63' version with you guys! :)

I timed this.... my 400SEL W140, with full tank and AC off.
0-100Kmh in 5.5 seconds.

Two tonnes of steel and leather...

Thats with the M119 engine, which I *think* is in yours....

Guys

My toaster doesn't boil water as fast as my mates kettle. Did Breville make a mistake putting so little power through the element?

Sorry to OP but couldn't resist - It's all about horses for courses as I can see you now appreciate. Enjoy the horses you have and cruise in comfort rather than race in plastic! :D

The Kompressor engine with 3.2 capacity being faster than the V8 is as a result of what? Does it have a Turbo:confused:

The Kompressor engine with 3.2 capacity being faster than the V8 is as a result of what? Does it have a Turbo:confused:

er, the clue is "Kompressor" - German for supercharger.

The fundamental problem here is not going to be resolved without some reading on your part!

Some basics:

V4, V5, V6, V8, V10, V12 in relation to an engine tells you two things - see here - http://auto.howstuffworks.com/engine2.htm for layout, the number means the number of cylinders. Yours is a V8, so two banks of 4 cylinders each.

The layout of the engine does not automatically determine the power output
The number of cylinders does not automatically determine the power output
The size of the engine does not automatically determine the power output

One engine isn't "faster" than another in any respect other than the RPM at that moment of comparison.

One car will accelerate faster than another based on several factors in combination including:
the weight of the car
the power being generated by the engine as it accelerates, which in turn is determined by the gear selected and the amount of throttle applied

It's obvious you do want to get a grasp on this, but it's not something that can be easily achieved remotely by asking a series of almost unrelated questions!

We are all here to help and we will all help, but you need to do some work at your end too!

When Wiki comes back online tomorrow, start with this link - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Engine

If anyone else knows a good site to get into the basics, it would help to post it on this thread!

Mcobinad - you are one of a kind - keep posting :D:D

Wow, thank you immensely for this detailed information. This is well written with an amazing array of facts. Not really a fan of wikipedia, i guess it was back then when i was doing my master's degree programme that i had to reference something from Wikipedia. My Supervisor made it a blatant 'No No' and annulled my reference list. I thought he sounded subjective or stringent at the initial stage but deep research confirmed that wiki was not acceptable as a reliable source for cross referencing!

Anyway, since this information is relating to cars, i see no reason why the information will not be accurate! I will look it up! You sound like someone who knows quite alot about engines. :)
