Hi guys,

Would appreciate some advice re my c270 cdi (2002)

For the past few weeks I have noticed a subtle clunking/knocking noise coming from the front end of the car (steering/suspension etc???). It come about primarily while turning (at slow speeds), but also when slowing down to a complete stop. It can be quite loud sometimes; and other times you can't hear it..

When driving at normal road speeds or motorway all is fine, and the car is smooth, and corners well.

I first thought it was my brakes, but later realised it wasn't happening exclusively while braking/slowing.

It can also sometimes be brought on by turning the steering from lock to lock while stationery, but again, only sometimes..so even that isn't consistent...

I've had it checked out by 3 garages (kwikfit, ATS and national tyre), who all said nothing was wrong - the shocks were fine, as were the brakes etc. They reassured me...

But something is definitely not right - and I'm worried, in case its something serious being missed.

Any ideas of what this could be?? I'm confused...(not to mention worried :( )

Thanks in advance for your help.

If it is that thats gone, how much is it likely to cost? Is it a main dealers job, or OK for an indie to do?

Was surprised that the garages I went to didn't check all this out properly, even though they claim to do steering/suspension work...

very few check the anti roll bar bushes and the drop links as they aret expensive and wont make them a huge profit! those tyre places are, to be perfectly honest, too expensive for tyres, most of th time, and too expensive and cr*p with suspension! i wouldnt let them fix anything more than a puncture an my WHEELBARROW, never mind my car! any indie/ competent diyer could replace the links and bushes. not sure how much they are but theyre not expensive

Of course, mercland, have heard them mentioned here before and heard of Jay and his fellas - sounds like they know their stuff - I'll drop by when passing. Do u think they'll check it on the spot, or would I need to book it in?

Cheers for that..

I'll second WDM cars too. Very good and try to save you money wherever possible. That's no disrespect to Jay by the way.
