Hi all

Im new to Mercedes ownership, and have a 99 CLK 230 k.

My question is ...

When reversing from cold (not on full lock) there is a clunk nosie, as if the wheel is going over a pot hole. I have checked the wheel bearing and taken up the play, and everthing appears tight. Tyres are good and at correct presures.

any ideas

Rich

Anti roll bar drop links are known to do that, check for any free play in the anti roll bar fixings, best done by levering with a bar.

Handbrake shoes settling with change of direction when released?.Try leaving handbrake off next time you park up and see if it happens with next reverse on cold start up.

Not too tight, I trust. They're taper bearings and should have some movement

clunk

No, just took a bit of the play out.
I'll try the handbrake thing next time i park up.
If not and it is the Anti roll bar drop links, is this a costly thing to have put right, and would this affect the cars steering, there is a very slight wonder at speed on the motorways.

Thanks

Rich
