Hi everyone

My S500 LWB from 1994 has quite suddenly developed some clunks which sound as if they come from the front suspension. My garage has gone right through all the options they can think of and found only one bush which was at all worn (steering idler(?)) and replaced that. Springs and shockers have passed their inspection and they are completely at a loss and have admitted defeat.

On such an old car I am reluctant to give "carte blanche" to replace everything until the clunk stops but in every other way the car is superb and I am reluctant to lose her as she has been a trusted old friend.

Does anyone have experience that might help?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions:)

The normal culprits are the drop links on the anti roll bar, you have to leaver them to find the fault. very cheap.

Rattling noise ... Change drop link rod ...

You are absolutely right Malcolm ... It's the drop links rod which cost about £8 each. Andy Gayle in Birmingham changed mine (E200 W210 Facelift) both 0SF & NSF drop links rod for £54 last week ..

And NOW, no more clunking, rattling, knocking noise when drive over uneven roads or bumbs ... i'm over the moon now, a christmas present for my missus and me ... we suffer that noise for a year ... really annoying

Hello Malcolm and TV

You were indeed absolutely correct! The front anti roll bar drop links cost £24.96 each and the labour at Class Cars of Wingham Kent which is my nearest Mercedes specialist charged £67.50 for the labour. They did the work in 24 hours and gave me a courtesy so I thought their service was excellent.

And well done again to you two gentlemen!

Michael
