Hi. Since having my conductor plate changed, my car isn’t responding well to the cold. When I’m driving, the gear changes feel really clunky. Especially the lower ones. Once the engine is warmed up, no problems.
Is this normal or do I need it looking at?
My car is a Mercedes c220 cdi coupe 2015.
Thanks in advance.

Was it replaced with a new unit?
If the plate was changed, its posisble they have not got the oil level correct.

Yea new unit from Mercedes. But the work wasn’t carried out by a Mercedes garage. I did read that these cars do this by design to give the catalytic converter time to warm up. Not sure how true that is tho.

I have a 212 E350CDI with the 7G auto box. These are renowned for being clunky when cold, particularly going down into first gear. Not sure if your C220 has the same box?

If its changed characteristics the something isn't right.

A new unit will require adaptions to be run to establish shift characteristics. This may not have been done. If that is the case, it will take a few hundred miles before it goes back to normal.

Depending on what they used to program it though, it should have pulled the adaptions from the old unit (if it still worked)

Yea 7g tronic automatic gear box. As I said. I did read that this is normal when they’re cold. And it’s fine once warmed up

The garage had to take it to Mercedes to programme the unit to the car. Apparently the units come locked now, so generic garages can’t fit and install them. Not without Mercedes software anyway.
I don’t know if the old unit still worked. I’m assuming not. But again, not sure.
The car wasn’t great last year in the cold either. But after the massive expense of the conductor plate, I’m (understandably) very aware of any slight knock or sound or jerk lol.

Alas time has come to part with my R231 SL500. Decisions has sadly been made following the demise of my Mother (need for 2x cars gone) to sell both our cars and invest in 1x a little more practical for retirement (E53 AMG cabriolet has become chosen replacement)..

If anyone is in the market for a reliable R231 SL500 let me know, owned the car for 6 years and it has not missed a beat or had any issues at all.

I would put it in the classifieds but for some reason it keeps asking for a tag.

More pics and details available on request.

Yes main dealer or independent with genuine mb diag tools can buy/program the new plate.

In any case, worth a further check that the level is correct.
