I have a W202, with a manual 5 spead box. If I keep the clutch depressed the unit slowly release the clutch plate and engages the gear, locking in gear until I have fully released and re-depressed the clutch. It feels as if there is a pressure loss through a cylinder, however as far as I can see fluid levels are normal. Any thoughts on posssolution and perhaps cost indication for repair bill.

Hi,
I think you have a clutch master cylinder failure, I don,t think its the slave cylinder on the gearbox as if this failed you would see it in lost fluid.
I had mine wrongly replaced on my C230K it was approx. £75 plus fitting.
The mechanic said it was a bit of a pig to fit (hanging upside down in the footwell) it had to be pressure bled to get a pedal too.

The cause of your problem is worn seals within the 'clutch master cylinder', the only cure is to buy a new master cylinder.......a rough costs guess would be up to a maximum of £300 fitted.

Hi,
I have just looked on euro car parts web site and a W202 clutch master cylinder is £24 for a Guttman, and £43 for an ATE.
I think that ATE is original equipment for Mercedes, though I could be wrong.
