Clyinder head removing

Hi all. I have an E220 cdi 2002.

I need to remove the clyinder head to have some work done on it. Its blown out No 2 injector. The bolt that holds the clamp in place has broken and stripped the threads in the head. So the head needs to come off to have the old bolt drilled out and a sleeve put in.

Can anyone help me. I need to know if there is any information about removing the head anywhere. I need to know how to lock the enging up for the head to come of. Any tricks of the trade for the timing chain. Is there a step by step guide anywhere?

Hello,

Have you tried all you local engineering shops to see if they will come out and do it on the car! im in london and we have a firm that comes out and does it without even taking cam cover off! Might be worth making a few phone calls before you start taking the head off.

As that excellent post by ludders, it can be fixed as is, without taking off the head

I would second that opinion, the broken bolt is easily accessible, and should be no problem to an engineer..

There are lots of kits on the market for doing this, using one of the kits its pretty fool proof

no idea where youre located fos1, but for advice theres a guy near me that posts on here would be useful to contact, posts under the screen name "exeng". Steve at extract engineering. he does a fair amount of this type of work for the MB stealers in Carlisle. thats how i originally got to know about him. his signature on his posts contain his contact details or i can supply them if required. i've got 1 of his business cards somewhere.....

As above, this happened to my mother in law's:evil: 220 CDI recently.

Used a firm called thread doctor. Let me know if you are in the south, and I'll dig out his details.

Thanks to everyone who has answered my question. Your correct rpe2 am in Donny. I have taken on what you have all said to me and i have found a fitter who has done this before with the direct injection before. Hes a mate of a mate. He says its not really a problem at all. I think the company that told me to take the head off were just trying to get some business.
Anyway its not getting done untill next wednesday as its in the paint shop havng all the rusty boby work replaced.
I will let you all know how the job went on.

Has the bolt snapped or just stripped if its stripped it a repair that can be done without removing the head and the system i use enables the use of genuine screw and clamp so retaining the stretch effect required for the screw
