Coating of black tar(oil) on injectors on C220 CDI

On removing the engine cover on my 1998 C220 CDI the whole injector area was covered in hardened/brittle black tar/(oil). My mercedes mechanic tells me that it's a leaking injector and may not be worth fixing. The car has had to be topped up with oil on a fairly regular basis since I purchased it 10 years ago. But car is driving well and i do not notice any loss of power. I would be grateful for any advice/comments.

Well the leaking injector will have to be repaired, bound to be fumes in the car if nothing else.. just chip away the coked up goo and recut the seat and replace the washer.. new bolt as well.. not a big job

Thank you for reply - I should have mentioned that the mechanic also thought oil maybe from crack in cylinder head. There have definitely not been any fumes in the car. I reckon it may have bben a small leak over a long time

We re-cut 2-3 heads a week for leaking injector seals!! it the only correct way to re-fit them!!
