My little autel arrived today, so I couldn't wait and did a FULL diag - bearing in mind that car had been sat around until my ownership and did about 300 miles in the last 4 years - so I expected some surprises & terrors (I bought it with a SRS message )
68 faults across the car - looked terminally ill to me!
I started digging in, then gave up and did a full quick clear on it and re-ran the report, a mere 5 faults.... some alarm, some rear parking sensor and the srs is, it would seem, a known one "passenger front acceleration sensor" a bit of tracing & cleaning on the cards tomorrow for that then, to start with.
I'm feeling a little happier with my bargain bin benz now
In other news, replace one rear bag and we've been level for a whole 6 hours so far

Good stuff. A car sitting around will throw lots of codes due to low voltage on every module / things needing reset (roofs, windows).
A good battery, a run, code clear, and run again will give you some direction.

TBH when I got the car it had a new battery, which was a bit on the lazy side so I charged it.
The alarm (overhead control stuff) I can live without (as I've already chopped out the siren lol)
The parking sensor faults are the rear outers, as the fronts burst into life after the code clearing marathon. It'll give the plugs a clean, shuffle inters and outers etc etc and see if I need to buy anything.
The important code is the acceleration sensor, as it sticks SRS warning messages on the display (but no light, as the bags etc are unaffected)
As a side issue.... it keeps asking me to reset the tpms / runflat sensor - what's the point, it has no tpms valves lolololol!!

btw dont ask merc for sensors unless you want rushing to A and E with a heart attack.

I was quoted 160 odd a sensor, Whip the dud one off (to compare) and get on ebay. You may get lucky and get one with same color at a fraction of the cost of a car being broken.
