Now that winter is approaching, I am finding that when i start my car, its very noisy somewhere. When I switched to Neutral and rev the accelerator, the noise disappears. When driving, the noise comes and goes upon accelerating/decelerating but gradually subsides and disappears altogether presumably as the car warms up.

Is this a problem i should look into and is it something i can resolve easily?

what sort of noise is it?

if it is ticking noise, then it could be the hydraulic lifters on the tappets

also a blocked oil filter comes to mind-has it had a regular oil and filter change?

its almost like a squeeling noise - i seem to hear it from other cars too....i just had a service - supposed to have changed the oil filters and fluids - but the garage could have been dodgy as it was a non local one i had to use.

any ideas?

i would suggest you acquire a haynes manual for your car -if it is due to the single drive belt that turns the water pump,alternator,a/c pump and crankshashaft pulley being lose, then tightening it (the drive belt) to the correct tension will eradicate the squealing.

this is well covered in the haynes manual.

or you could do a search on "drivebelt" or "serpentine belt" on this web page by pressing the search tab at the top middle of the page.

good luck!

look on page 1A.11-section8-under auxiliary drivebelts-

there are 3 different versions-single drivebelt with a/c,without a/c, and 4 cylinder with multiple drivebelts -

therefore not quite sure which applies to your car-but makes for good reading and you may find your answers there.
