Cold Start Rattle - not Timing chain

Hi Folks,

My 651 engine has a slight increase in mechanical noise for 3-5 seconds after cold start. its intermittent. never when warm. I changed the tensioner and timing chain (OEM) but it still has it. strangely if i repeat glow plug activation before cold start its less frequent. oil I'm running is 0W30 Castrol fully syn.

I read a thread from a chap that found he was running a counterfeit BOSCH oil filter and after changing, his very similar symptoms to mine went away
i also read a thread about an AC pump causing this.

Any thought please?

My view regarding timing chain replacement is that I’d change the chain and sprockets they both wear and it might lead to what you’re experiencing

sorry should have mentioned that the inlet and exhaust sprockets were both
done.

Just out of interest on the timing chain issue. I'm still a member of one of the Jaguar forum's although I don't own one anymore. Their 2.0 Ltr turbo engine pre 2019 has horrendous problems with said chains and tentioners. The engine is also fitted in the JLR range. My question is does the equivalent Mercedes engine suffer from the same problems after 30/60k I would think not, but I'll ask the question.

yes it does and as i said, i changed the tensioner
