cold starting

Hi.I've just bought a c250D,lovely car but sometimes it will not start of a morning.Yet other mornings it starts 1st go.I'm wondering if there have been problems with immobiliser on this model.I've heard of air in fuel lines causing starting difficulties but wouldn't this cause a problem every time?Any suggestions gratefully received!

Being a deisel the 1st thing i always check is my glow plugs,even just one of these off would affect how it starts on a morning

I'm assuming the engine is turning over, therefore not the immobiliser as this prohibits starter motor function.

Thanks guys I should have said that local garage checked out pre-heat circuit, everything working fine.In fact they couldn'nt find anything wrong with vehicle!
