Ok guys and girls......

This isnt gonna be a show car restro build cause im just a poor tech who works on mercs..........

I will try to show how some simple things are done tho what can be done at home on these older cars.........

So, this is what i am starting with

As you can see, the trim is good apart from the standard drivers side boster,

I already have a list of things to do to start with........

Engine mounts x 3.

Prop donuts x 2

Exhaust is blowing

Magnetic clutch on the cooling fan not working.

Rear speakers not working

Exhaust hanger broken letting the back box hit the body

Loads of free play on throttle

Massive brake imbalance and one sticking on.

Steering damper lost its oil.

The list will prob get bigger once i get it to work and get her up in the air, first job will be the wheels, while there being done i will pull the brakes apart and reburb them and get the calipers painted...........

So, first job done already......

Wow that is a lovely colour combination :D:D

Re the bolster, it should be possible to get a rear seat from a breaker, and use the material from that.

This is one way of making a car look pretty, quick paint of the wheels, this is what happens when you wash them with a heavy duty TFR cleaner......

Not worried as we have a good company where we are for powder coating........ will show the picts once done......

Bookmarked thread and watching with interest. :)

It looks half decent Col, are the wheels all in good nick apart from the obvious paint bit?

Yes Dave, wheels have a few marks but nothing to worry about, someone has just sprayed them with a halfords rattle can, thats not a bad thing but dont think there was any prep work done before first......

Think its gonna be a keeper, stripping Sarahs 124 for paint a few months ago give me a love for these older mercs, love the shape of the 190, couldnt do anything to the coupe, where this thing is great to drive dispite it needing a lot of work which i can do, still need to keep it on the road tho for GTGs....

Couldn't agree more Cole. We had a 190 for 9 years/80,000 miles and it gave us no problems at all. They do like tyres, probably a function of the smaller wheels, but apart from that at 80,000 it was like a new car. Swapped it for a 280 TE, and the 124 was a very similar, very refined drive.

Sounds corny but, "they don't make them like that any more"!

Agree Alex, this still only has 90000 miles, hence it was the one i picked out of such long choice of 190,s, still to see what is hidden once i get it to work but we will see..........

I do miss my 190's. I'd swap the S for a good one but can't find anyone willing to part with theirs.
