My nearside rear airmatic suspension (2004 e320cdi estate) collapsed like it was falling off a kerb, just the day before I was due to get it changed! (It had been leaking air previously. I crawled to the local mechanicin Dumfries as my nearest star diagnostics is 36 miles away in Carlisle. They changed it with a used strut I'd purchased from Dronsfields. However, the compressor will only run now if it is spiked from an external12 volt supply, and also there are no warnings of low suspension appearing on dash ( now with both rear sides flat down) The question I have is ...is the greatest likelihood a problem with a position sensor, and therefore a relatively cheap fix in which case I face the £70 transportation cost to Carlisle and star diagnostics etc, or might I be better advised with the financial risk to change the airmatic to springs with an overall cost including labour of £350 (given that it is an elderly 2004 model). Any opinions gratefully received.
