Sorry if this has been covered before but I cant spot it anywhere:

My 2001 class S has a 2001 satnav CD which is clearly out of date. On line it appears that reputable sellers are offering a 2006 version for GB and Ireland at around £90 delivered. MB want £135 + VAT. Is their any reason to buy the MB version?

On a similar subject comand firmware disks are available on ebay, do I need to upgrade the firmware, what should I gain?

Thanks in advance

Mark.

I have 02 s320 and the comand is DX. If you have the same than it will be the Teleatlas disc. I believe Alfie is now a reseller for Teleatlas. MB's discs are from Teleatlas as well.
I have recently purchased the TMC version and works well on my car.

thanks for the info. Two questions:

What / who is Alfie?

I had understood that TMC isnt activated in the UK, was that incorrect advice?

Alfie is at www.comand.co.uk
TMC has been active for some months now. Need to tune in to Classic FM to pick up the signal. However you can carry on listening to tapes or CD's.
Works great on my nav

Just to say that I have a 2002 S500 with Comand, the disk in it is from 2001. The company mentioned supply the DX disk at around gbp90 but have advised me that a new version is due out mid September, I am waiting for that version. I have also been advised that all should work fine without a firmware upgrade.

Hi,

comand.co.uk were setup in the UK specifically to supply COMAND units for retrofitting to various Mercedes models. We supply units at a fraction of the price that MB charge and also offer full fitting services if desired, including STAR cluster programming. We have recently been appointed authorised Teleatlas resellers and can supply any of the european Teleatlas disks at very competitive pricing.

The new 2007 disks are due to be available for ordering on the 11th September.

Our most popular disk is the UK & Ireland DX ITIS disk. This is the one with TMC coding which allows dynamic routing around traffic congestion and the congestion zone in London. It retails at £156 plus £4.99 postage. The UK & Ireland disk without TMC retails at £92 plus postage. The ITIS disk with michelin guide is the most expensive at £180.

If anyone wants any other Teleatlas disks, then we are happy to quote for them.

As for buying from MB, you can if you choose but you will be paying significantly more for the same data.

whilst driving down the M6 last week, TMC recalculated my route, and took me onto the A54 to avoid some congestion, however, it also took the majority of the M6 drivers onto it too, thus creating congestion on that road whilst i was driving along it and no choice but to keep going.

then it told me to turn left back on the M6 down by the A500, of course i was busy listening to the music and went right passed over the M6 and headed back up to the next junction to turn round again.

and the M6 was clear.

it does work tho. And you can check what roads are busy before you set off without having to set the navigation. you just rpess the TMC button and it tells you all the messages received.

Anybody know what the latest comand dvd for my unit will be? It's a 211 E class registered June 2004. I think I was supplied with 3.0 or 3.1 when I recently bought it. Will check to confirm.

Thanks

The only firmware upgrade that you need for COMAND 2 if you havn't already got it is the MY01 update. the last S/w update for COMAND 2 came out late 2002. This is available to download from the internet (http://www.geocities.com/comand12000/) or can be obtained from your local dealer as part number W230 589 00 22 00. Its a CD which you place into the drive with the unit turned off. You then press * and # and turn the unit on. Simply answer the question and COMAND will sit there and update. It runs in two stages and takes about 40 minutes from start to finish.

If you are not sure if you have this update, you can check by entering an address into the navigation. If you get predictive text entering with some letters blanked out, then you have MY01 already.

New Navigation CD - APS50

so, can anyone tell me if the new 2007 Navigation CD release in Sep is compatible with an APS50 (in a 03 W211).

Just wondering what functionalities it has - Post Code entry ? TMC ?

In my current version, TMC messages is always empty.

Maybe Alfie can help here too.

I have seen too many postings about what after market Navigation CDs would work, but seem to be getting conflicting stories.

SO, is the Tele Atlas CD going to work in an APS50 ?

Thanks

The september release of Teleatlas Cd's only covers the COMAND 2 system and not the COMAND APS (DVD based). We have the 2007 Teleatlas Cd's in stock and a few COMAND APS 6.3's coming in soon. However, there are two releases for COMAND APS. The COMAND APS fitted to the W211 is presently at release 5.1 or 5.2 which should give you TMC. I do not have any of these as they are only available through Mercedes Benz and not directly from Teleatlas (incidentally Teleatlas supply the data for the DVD disks and wont sell the disks themselves). The 6.3 APS version I have is for the A/B/CLK/C/R/ML/GL and not for E class (W211).

BTW I can offer more competitive pricing than bluespot on genuine teleatlas disks if anyone is interested.

teleatlas Cd's do not work in APS50. You need to go to your local dealer and ask them for a new/updated disk which might be expensive.

But the Merc disc I have covers all Europe too and was excellenet in France and Germany. Does your cheaper disc do the same please? I only ask because you said UK and Ireland.

Anyone know what the new version will do that the old one doesn't?

There is a UK/Ireland Teleatlas Cd and there is a Major roads of Western Euriope Cd. The MRWE Cd only has the major roads on it and none of the minor roads. I would advise anyone travelling in europe to have a disk for that country unless they are simply passing through it on major roads.

Naturally with COMAND APS the whole of europe including the minor roads and villages is stored on the one DVD.
